2nd Feb 2006
Dear Client,
We are now announcing that we are upgrading all shared servers to new Dual Opteron servers in the FortressITX datacenter. We have been working diligently on the move and we are now extremely close to completing it. All data is on the new servers and this data is 95% up to date. All accounts have been setup, all IP addresses have been allocated, all servers have been secured and optimized and we are in the final stages of this move.
The final stages involve:
On February 2nd, we will conduct an initial incremental rsync. This will copy over all data that is new or that has changed since the bulk of the data was moved over. We will be checking and double checking the configuration on all of the servers to ensure that everything is correct.
On February 3rd, we will conduct a final rsync and migrate any data that has changed within the past 24 hours over. We are then going to disable all services on the old server and copy over all the DNS zone files from the new server to the old server. We will then restart just the DNS service on the old server, which will mean all DNS requests will be forwarded to the new server which has the up to date data on it.
You can expect up to 30 minutes downtime whilst we copy the DNS zones from the new server to the old server. We have elected to use a small amount of downtime to ensure there are no discrepancies between data on the new and old server. The window in which this downtime will occur is between 12:00 GMT on February 3rd and 00:00 GMT on February 4th. In practice, we expect the downtime to be a matter of minutes but we are allowing ourselves upto 30 minutes incase of any unforeseen problems.
All customers are expect NOT to change or update the contents of your website and disable any database related scripts, such as forums, for a few days, to minimise data lost.
We will be using the billing email addresses we have on file as our points of contacts. We have started staggering our shifts so that the maximum amount of manpower is available for February 3rd to address any issues that arise and to ensure that we can do things swiftly and smoothly.
Thanks,

In an effort to stop AOL from blocking our E-mail without warning, we have setup a Feedback Loop with AOL to have all e-mail reported as SPAM (by AOL users) sent to us along with the E-mail Header.
This Feedback Loop is now allowing us to track down any Spam being sent out from our servers.
This is a great leap forward in the SPAM War for not only FortitudeSeven.com but for AOL as well. For the last few months AOL has blocked E-mail from any particular server without warning (as most of you know from experience). With the tool in place, we will be able to keep that from happening by stopping the SPAM quickly.
If you have any questions, comments, or concerns abot this, please let us know. |
